ABOUT MARION THE BARBARIAN

Marion's journey began at the age of six when his mother taught him to sketch Batman—a moment that sparked his lifelong love for art. Growing up in the 90s, Marion was deeply inspired by the cartoons and comics of his childhood. Shows like Samurai Jack, Ed, Edd, n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Dragonball shaped his artistic sensibilities, while superheroes like Batman instilled a sense of heroism and complexity in his creative vision. His formal training at the High School of Art and Design and New England College honed his skills and broadened his artistic perspective.​

For Marion, art is not just a medium of expression but a means of connection. His creative process varies depending on the project, carefully selecting mediums that amplify the intended message. Whether it's a digital print, a traditional painting, or motion graphics, every piece is designed to evoke a deep emotional response.

Marion's work explores exaggerated and distorted characters to highlight specific emotions and qualities. Tall, lanky figures are given outlandish proportions, creating visually arresting pieces that communicate strength, vulnerability, and resilience. His color palettes and textures reflect the grit of urban environments, while recurring motifs like panthers, masks, and military insignia pay homage to cultural pride and historical legacy.

Experiencing being bullied as a child and times of feeling overlooked, Marion uses his art to give voice to the marginalized and to inspire strength in others. Themes of camaraderie, transformation, and legacy are central to his work. Marion’s art is a seamless blend of the past and present. Drawing inspiration from pop culture, personal experiences, and historical narratives, he connects the struggles of historical Black figures to modern identity and style. His heroes are both superhuman and relatable, embodying the duality of strength and vulnerability.
